The story is told of how Betty Faye started her first cafe on the plains of Texas, quenching the large appetites of Cattlemen and oil drillers. Betty Faye and her husband traveled to Texas to strike it rib in black gold. While her husband went to work in the oil fields, Betty Faye pitched in to help cooking for the workers. Folks were rough and tough. They worked hard and endured many hardships, and just like people today, they knew how to enjoy good food. Starting small, Betty Faye cooked up some wagon wheel pancakes, scrambled up some eggs, and threw some potatoes with all the fixings on the stove. As she watched the workers enjoying her home cooking, she realized that great food was her black gold. So she opened the first Betty Faye's Cafe. Her biscuits and gravy were the talk of the town. Thick juicy steaks and large cuts of ham were her staples. Pot roast with corn bread was one of her weekly specials and her meatloaf was pure gold. Betty Faye's Cafe was a hit and soon people were driving into town just to stop by Betty Faye's. Betty Faye's husband may not have struck it rich in the oil fields, but Betty Faye struck it rich with her cafe. As the oil fields started to dry up they decided to head to California and introduce the "49er" miners to a new Betty Faye's Cafe. Betty Faye was a hit in the land of the sunshine and while her husband was working in the gold fields, Betty Faye struck gold with her California cafe. And the rest, as they say, is history.
